Panthers Pick Up $2M Of Cap Room By Reworking DE Mario Addison’s Deal

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Panthers created $2 million of cap space by converting $2.5 million of DE Mario Addison‘s base salary into a signing bonus in recent days.

Coming into today, the Panthers had just $1,772,708 of cap space, so this could use a little room to work with over the remainder of the season.

Addison, 31, originally signed on with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Troy back in 2011. He lasted just a few months in Chicago before he was waived and later claimed off of waivers by the Colts.

After a brief stint with the Redskins in 2012, the Panthers signed him to their practice squad and later gave him a two-year extension in 2014.

Addison is in the second year of his three-year, $22.5 million contract that includes $11.5 million guaranteed and is set to make base salaries of $5.5 million and $5.75 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Addison has appeared in eight games and recorded 21 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
