Panthers HC Ron Rivera told reporters on Monday that their plan right now is to activate DE Charles Johnson from short-term injured reserve this week.
This would allow Johnson to be active for their Thanksgiving day game against the Cowboys.
Carolina placed Johnson on injured reserve with the designation to return after he suffered hamstring injury.
They later traded for veteran DE Jared Allen to bolster their defensive line depth while he was out.
Johnson, 29, is in the fifth year of his six-year, $76 million contract that included $32 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $9.75 million this year and another $10.75 million in 2016 as part of this agreement.
This season, Johnson has appeared in three games and recorded five tackles and a sack for the Panthers.
