Update:
The Carolina Panthers announced that further testing revealed that QB Cam Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back, but no further internal injuries.
- Team spokesman Charlie Dayton said that it’s unclear if Newton will play Sunday, per Steve Reed.
- Former team physician David Chao mentions that a transverse fracture is “good news” as it’s not dangerous and is considered to be a short-term injury.
Trey Wingo of ESPN points out that Cowboys QB Tony Romo suffered the same injury after he took a hit to back during their game against the Redskins earlier this season. Romo wound up missing the following week’s game against the Cardinals due to the injury.
We’ll have to see if he’s able to practice this week and play in their Week 15 matchup against the Buccaneers.
