Panthers Release DE Mike Purcell From Practice Squad

The Carolina Panthers officially released DE Mike Purcell from their practice squad on Saturday.

The Panthers’ practice squad now consists of:
  1.  QB Garrett Gilbert
  2. WR Mose Frazier
  3. OT Blaine Clausell
  4. DE Zach Moore (Exception)
  5. DE Efe Obada (International)
  6. S Damian Parms
  7. TE Bucky Hodges
  8. WR Austin Duke
  9. WR Jamaal Jones
  10. LB Ezekiel Bigger

Purcell, 25, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming back in 2013. He was unable to make the 53-man roster during his rookie season but was later signed to their practice squad.

Purcell returned to San Francisco on a future/reserve contract and eventually worked his way onto the active roster towards the end of the 2014 season. The 49ers re-signed him to a one-year exclusive rights contract back in April but elected to waive him a month later.

The Rams claimed Purcell off waivers but he was among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason and later signed to the Bears’ practice squad.

The Panthers signed him to their practice squad a few weeks ago but he was released

In 2016, Purcell appeared in 15 games for the 49ers and recorded 26 tackles, no sacks and a forced fumble.
