Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Panthers are releasing veteran CB Captain Munnerlyn on Monday.
Munnerlyn, 30, is a former seventh-round pick of the Panthers back in 2009. He spent five years in Carolina before signing a three-year, $11.25 million with the Vikings back in 2014.
Munnerlyn elected to return to the Panthers for the 2017 season when he agreed to a four-year, $21 million contract.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Munnerlyn will free up $2 million of available cap space while creating $3 million in dead money.
In 2018, Munnerlyn appeared in all 16 games for the Panthers and recorded 47 tackles, two sacks, an interception, a fumble recovery and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 83 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.
