The Carolina Panthers announced Friday that they’ve signed K Chandler Catanzaro to a contract and placed G Amini Silatolu on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Panthers K Graham Gano has been dealing with a knee injury, so this is a move to bolster their depth at kicker in case he can’t suit up.
Catanzaro, 27, signed on with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson back in 2014. He has spent all three years of his career with the Cardinals before they elected to not tender him a contract last year, making him an unrestricted free agent.
The Jets later signed him to a one-year contract last March and after a year in New York, Catanzaro agreed to a contract with the Buccaneers this offseason. The Bucs waived him in November.
In 2018, Catanzaro appeared in nine games for the Buccaneers and 11 of 15 field goal attempts (73.3 percent) to go along with 23 of 27 extra point tries (85.2 percent).
Silatolu, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Panthers back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract with the Panthers before signing on with the Bears a few years ago.
Silatolu lasted just a few months in Chicago before he was released at the start of the 2016 season and re-signed by the Panthers. Carolina brought him back on one-year deals each of the past two seasons.
In 2018, Silatolu appeared in six games for the Panthers.
