Panthers Sign K Graham Gano To Four-Year, $17M Deal Before Tag Deadline

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Panthers have signed K Graham Gano to a long-term contract before today’s franchise tag deadline.

  • According to Rapoport, Gano gets a four-year, $17 million contract with $9 million guaranteed.
  • Mike Garafolo points out that at $4.25 million per year, Gano is now the second-highest-paid kicker in the league.

The Panthers have already confirmed that they’ve signed Gano to a four-year extension.

Recent reports said that Carolina was in negotiations with Gano ahead of the tag deadline, but was prepared to franchise him if needed.

The Giants were mentioned as a potential suitor in free agency had the Panthers and Gano not agreed to an extension before next week.

Gano, 30, played out the final year of his four-year, $12.4 million contract that included $3.95 million guaranteed and is now in position to be unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2017, Gano converted 29 of 30 field goal attempts (96.7 percent) to go along with 34 of 37 extra point tries and 70 touchbacks.
