The Carolina Panthers announced Thursday that they’ve signedย S L.J. McCray to a future/reserve contract.
McCray becomes the 14th player signed to a futures deal by the Panthers including:

- OT Blaine Clausell
- WR Kayarris Garrett
- CB Tyler Patton
- RB Jalen Simmons
- TE Scott Simonson
- OT Pearce Slater
- OT Tyrus Thompson
- TE Eric Wallace
- S Brian Blechen
- OT Jake Rodgers
- FB Darrel Young
- CB Jeff Richards
- Sย L.J. McCray
Future/reserve contracts are essentially an opportunity for players compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and during training camp.
McCray, 25, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Catawba back in May of 2014. The 49ers elected to trade him to the Seahawks coming out of the preseason for aย conditional 2018ย seventh-round pick but he failed a physical and was later waived.
The Colts recently brought McCray in for a workout but did not extend him an offer.
In 2015, McCray recorded five tackles over the course of eight games.
