According to Joe Person, the Panthers are signing TE Andrew Vollert to the active roster.
To make room, the team will waive TE Cam Sutton according to his agent.
Carolina hosted Vollert for a workout on Thursday.
Vollert, 25, wound up going undrafted out of Weber State back in 2018. He signed a three-year, $1.71 million contract with the Cardinals, but was on and off of their practice squad before catching on with the Bengals last November.
Cincinnati brought Vollert back on a futures contract in January of last year only to waive a few months later. The Chargers quickly claimed him off of waivers from the Bengals but was waived with an injury designation and reverted to their injured reserve.
Los Angeles cut him loose two weeks ago. This is the first reported interest in him since becoming a free agent.
During his college career at Weber State, Vollert caught 146 passes for 1,977 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns over the course of 38 games.
Lewis, 27, wound up signing on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Illinois back in 2016. He was in the final year of his three-year, $1.62 million contract and made a base salary of $630,000 for the 2018 season.
Lewis was not tendered by the Saints as a restricted free agent and he later agreed to a contract with the Lions in March. He was later placed on the PUP list and waived.
Lewis signed a futures deal with the Saints this past January but was cut a few weeks ago.
In 2018, Lewis appeared in seven games for the Saints and caught three passes for 60 yards receiving and one touchdown. He also rushed twice for 10 yards and totaled 69 kick return yards.
