According to NFL Draft Diamonds, the Panthers are signing former XFL WR Cam Phillips to the roster.
The Panthers confirmed the news and announced that they’ve signed WR Darrell Steward Jr, placed WR Omar Bayless on injured reserve and waived/injured CB Derrek Thomas.
This reunites Phillips with his former XFL QB, P.J. Walker, who signed with the Panthers earlier this offseason.
Phillips, 24, wound up signing on with the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech back in 2018. He agreed to a three-year, $1.71 million contract with the Bills but was waived as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players.
Phillips was on and off of the Bills’ practice squad and returned to Buffalo last year on a futures contract. However, he was once again cut loose coming out of the preseason and eventually signed with the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL.
During his one year in the XFL, Phillips caught 31 passes for 455 yards receiving and nine touchdowns over the course of five games.
