Gaulden was a former third-round pick projected as a starter for the Panthers entering the season at safety and nickel defender.
However, he never seized control of a role on defense and was responsible for both a muffed punt and a gratuitous personal foul on special teams during Sunday’s loss to the Saints.
Gaulden, 24, was drafted in the third round by the Panthers out of Tennessee in 2018. He was in the second year of a four-year, $3.44 million deal and was set to make a base salary of $595,250 for the 2019 season.
In 2019, Gaulden appeared in nine games and recorded two total tackles.
