Patriots Could Approach Logan Mankins Regarding An Extension

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports that Patriots G Logan Mankins is open to a contract extension if it could help the team create some additional cap space in the process.

Volin adds that, as of last night, the Patriots have yet to approach Mankins regarding an extension or C Ryan Wendell about a new contract.

Mankins, 31, still has three years remaining on his six-year, $51 million contract. However, a contract extension could offer them some cap relief in the time being. He’ll make $6.25 million for the 2014 season as things stand right now.

Last year, Mankins appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and was rated as the No. 19 guard in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.
