Patriots Decline DT Alan Branch’s 2018 Option

According to Doug Kyed of NESN, the Patriots have declined to pick up DT Alan Branch‘s option for the 2018 season on Tuesday.

This, of course, means that Branch will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Branch, 33, is a former second-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2007. He spent four years in Arizona before brief stints with the Seahawks and Bills.

The Patriots elected to sign him to a two-year, $4.3 million contract in March of 2015 and New England later brought him back on a two-year, $8.45-million contract last year. Branch was set to make a base salary of $1.7 million to go along with $1 million roster bonus for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Branch appeared in 12 games for the Patriots and recorded 12 tackles and no sacks.
