Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Patriots are promoting rookie LB Cassh Maluia to their active roster on Monday.
Field Yates adds that the Patriots are expected to place DT Beau Allen on injured reserve.
Allen has been absent from practice since earlier on in training camp, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.
It’s worth mentioning that the NFL changed the rules regarding injured reserve for the 2020 season and players can return from the list in just three weeks.
Allen, 28, is a former seventh-round pick by the Eagles in the 2014 NFL Draft. He played out the final year of a four-year rookie contract worth $2,282,248 before agreeing to a three-year, $15 million contract with the Buccaneers in 2018.
Allen agreed to a $1 million pay cut last offseason that voided his $5 million base salary for 2020. From there, he signed a two-year contract that carries a max value of $8 million with the Patriots.
In 2019, Allen appeared in 13 games for the Buccaneers and recorded 10 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and 0.5 of a sack.
