Jeff Howe of The Athletic reports that the Patriots have discussed the possibility of trading for Browns LB Jamie Collins.
This is interesting to hear, given that the Patriots trade Collins away a few years ago.
It’s clear that the Patriots are considering a number of moves including potential deals for receivers, so they’ll be a team to watch in the coming days.
Collins, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2013. The Patriots traded him to the Browns for a conditional fourth-round pick that can become a third-round compensatory pick.
The Browns then signed Collins to a four-year, $50 million contract that contained $26 million guaranteed and a $5 million signing bonus back in late January. He stands to make base salaries of $10 million (2019) and $12 million (2020).
In 2018, Collins has appeared in seven games for the Browns and recorded 44 tackles, two sacks, an interception and three pass defenses.
