Update:
Jim McBride reports that the Patriots have, in fact, re-signed LB Jamie Collins to a contract on Wednesday.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Patriots are negotiating a deal with free-agent LB Jamie Collins to bring him back to New England.
Collins, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2013. The Patriots traded him to the Browns for a conditional fourth-round pick that can become a third-round compensatory pick in 2016.
The Browns then signed Collins to a four-year, $50 million contract that contained $26 million guaranteed and a $5 million signing bonus.
He was set to make base salaries of $10 million (2019) and $12 million (2020) before the Browns cut him this March.
In 2018, Collins appeared in all 16 games for the Browns and recorded 104 tackles, four sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, a recovery and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 58 linebacker out of 92 qualifying players.
