According to Field Yates, Patriots OL J.J. Dielman has decided to retire.
Dielman was entering just his third season in the NFL after being drafted in 2017. He’s the third Patriots offensive lineman to retire this offseason, joining Jared Veldheer and Brian Schwenke.
Dielman was signed by the Patriots just three days ago.
Dielman, 25, was selected in the fifth round by the Bengals in 2017 out of Utah. He signed a four-year contract worth $2,819,648, which included a signing bonus of $201,944.
However, the Bengals elected to cut him loose coming out of the preseason and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Rams. Los Angeles cut Dielman loose and he rejoined the Bengals’ practice squad before signed away by the Broncos.
The Broncos waived him with an injury designation heading into the 2018 season. He had stints on both the Seahawks and Rams practice squads before being cut loose again in February.
Dielman earned second-team All-Pac 12 honors in 2015. He never appeared in a regular-season NFL game.
