Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Patriots are placing WR Julian Edelman on the non-football injury list with a thumb injury.
Edelman will still count against the Patriots’ 90-man roster and can be activated at any time.
Edelman is expected to be sidelined for about three weeks due to a left thumb injury he’s dealing with.
This will open up some more reps for some other Patriot receivers including N’Keal Harry, Phillip Dorsett, Braxton Berrios, Maurice Harris and Dontrelle Inman.
Edelman, 32, is a former seventh-round pick of the Patriots back in 2009. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $17 million contract when the Patriots to a two-year extension worth up to $18 million this past May.
In 2018, Edelman appeared in 12 games for the Patriots and caught 74 passes for 850 yards receiving and six touchdowns. He also added 107 rushing yards and 154 punt return yards for New England. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 14 receiver out of 117 qualifying players.
