Field Yates reports that the Patriots have re-signed DT Danny Shelton on Monday.
Shelton visited with the Bengals back in March, but left Cincinnati without a deal and hadn’t found any other reported interest before this.
The Patriots currently have Lawrence Guy, Mike Pennel, David Parry, Adam Butler and Byron Cowart on their roster at defensive tackle.
Shelton, 25, is a former first-round pick out of Washington by the Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Patriots acquired Shelton and a 2018 fifth-round pick from the Browns in exchange for a third-round pick in 2019 last year.
Shelton played out the final year of his four-year $11.703 million rookie contract that included a $6.771 million signing bonus and made a base salary of $2,030,955 in 2018. New England declined his fifth-year option, which is why he had been testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In 2018, Shelton appeared in 13 games for the Patriots and recorded 21 tackles and no sacks. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 interior defensive lineman out of 112 qualifying players.
We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
