Patriots Release Veteran RB Donald Brown & DE Frank Kearse

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Patriots have released veteran RB Donald Brown and DE Frank Kearse.

  • According to Jeff Howe, Brown received an injury settlement upon being released.

There was talk that Brown could be on the roster bubble, and the fact that he had been limited with an injury only increased the odds of him getting cut in the coming weeks.

Brown, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Colts back in 2009. After five years in Indianapolis, Brown signed on with the Chargers as an unrestricted free agent in 2014. However, he was cut loose this past March.

The Patriots signed Brown to a one-year, $965,000 contract during free agency.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will free up $380,000 in available cap space while creating $300,000 in dead money.

In 2015, Brown appeared in 10 games and ran for 229 yards on 59 carries (3.9 YPC) to go along with eight receptions for 88 yards receiving and one total touchdown.
