Patriots Releasing DT Mike Pennel

The Patriots are releasing veteran DT Mike Pennel on Monday, per Mike Reiss.

Pennel was signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Patriots this March after the Jets declined his option bonus and made him a free agent. New England signed him to a two-year, $5 million deal.

Pennel, 28, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State-Pueblo back in 2014. He was waived towards the end of 2016 and was later claimed off of waivers by the Jets.

The Jets re-signed Pennel to a three-year contract worth up to $12 million in 2018.

In 2018, Pennel appeared in all 16 games for the Jets and recorded 27 tackles, no sacks an a pass defense.
