Patriots Releasing WR Mohamed Sanu

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Patriots are releasing WR Mohamed Sanu on Wednesday.Mohamed Sanu

It’s worth mentioning that Sanu won’t officially be released until tomorrow at 4 pm EST, so it’s possible a trade could surface for him over the next 24 hours.

The Patriots placed Sanu on the PUP list to open training camp, as he was working his way back from an ankle injury.

Sanu, 30, is a former third-round pick of the Bengals back in 2012. He spent four years in Cincinnati before signing a five-year, $32.5 million contract that included $14 million guaranteed with the Falcons in 2016.

The Falcons traded Sanu to the Patriots for a second-round pick before last year’s deadline.

Sanu was set to make a base salary of $6.5 million in 2020.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Sanu will free up $6.5 million of available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2019, Sanu appeared in 15 games for the Patriots and Falcons and caught 59 passes for 520 yards receiving and touchdowns. He also rushed for 11 yards.
