Jim McBride reports that Patriots seventh-round C Dustin Woodard has retired from the NFL on Thursday. The decision to retire was reportedly unrelated to COVID-19 concerns.
The Patriots also waived undrafted rookie DE Nick Coe.
Jeff Howe mentions that Woodard had a great opportunity to become the backup center this season.
Woodard, 22, was selected with the No. 230 overall pick in the seventh round by the Patriots. He later agreed to a four-year, $3,392,324 contract with the Patriots that included a $97,324 signing bonus.
Woodard started 52 games during his college career at Memphis.
