Field Yates reports that the Patriots are signing DL Mike Pennel and TE Matt LaCosse to contracts on Thursday.
Pennel was owed an option bonus worth $1 million last month and the Jets somewhat surprisingly declined to pick it up.
The Patriots have been busy today, also signing:
- Patriots re-signed WR Phillip Dorsett. (NFLTR)
- Patriots signed WR Bruce Ellington. (NFLTR)
- Patriots signed S Terrence Brooks. (NFLTR)
- Patriots signed WR Maurice Harris. (NFLTR)
Pennel, 27, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State-Pueblo back in 2014. He was waived towards the end of 2016 and was later claimed off of waivers by the Jets.
The Jets re-signed Pennel to a three-year contract worth up to $12 million last year.
In 2018, Pennel appeared in all 16 games for the Jets and recorded 27 tackles, no sacks an a pass defense.
We had him featured in our Top 100 Available Free Agents list.
LaCosse, 26, wound up signing on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois back in 2015. He was waived during the preseason and later had a brief stint with the Jets before returning to the Giants during the 2015 season.
The Broncos signed LaCosse off of the Giants’ practice squad towards the end of the 2017 season. However, they declined to tender him a restricted offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.
In 2018, Lacosse appeared in 15 games for the Broncos and caught 24 passes for 250 yards receiving and one touchdown.
