Laurence Maroney has struggled to get any playing time this preseason which has led to plenty of speculation about a potential fallout with the Patriots. As of right now, Maroney has received only two carriers and is currently sitting at number four on the teams depth chart behind BenJarvis Green-Ellis.
ESPN’s NFC West blogger Bill Williamson suggested that Maroney would be a natural fit for the Denver Broncos offense given his previous time with head coach Josh McDaniels and the fact that the Broncos are running short on solid running back options. He also suggested that the Redskins could be another option for his services since Mike Shanahan seems to collect veteran running backs.
Despite the obvious signs that Maroney is no longer a top option for the Patriots, it would be hard to imagine them cutting him or continuing to limit his playing time. A trade seems likely but this situation should get much clearer this weekend.
