According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Vikings have no intention of bringing in a quarterback to compete withย Christian Ponder next year.
Now, that doesn’t mean that they intend to keep Joe Webb as their backup quarterback. The Star-Tribune lists:ย Derek Anderson, Matt Moore, David Carr, Matt Leinart, Byron Leftwich, Bruce Gradkowski, Jason Campbell and Rex Grossman as potential backup options for the Vikings to at least consider.
Minnesota GM Rick Spielman has remained adamantย that they support Ponder as their future quarterback 100 percent, so the decision to not bring in someone that can push Ponder for the job suggests that they pleased with his overall development.
Ponder showed signs of being a serviceable quarterback this season, but he’ll need to improve on his consistency and it would probably help if the Vikings could surround him a better receiving corp next season.

I can’t see why the Vikings are sold on Ponder. He hasn’t shown any signs of being a winner or leader on or off the field. Go after Smith. He had a good run in 2011 and had a good start in 2012 until the concussion. With the right coaching he has shown he can be effective. He should come at a reasonable price too.
