Raiders & G Richie Incognito Have Mutual Interest In New Deal

Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports that the Raiders and G Richie Incognito have mutual interest in him returning to the team next season.

Incognito was an interesting signing for the Raiders this past offseason, given the off-the-field issues he had the past few years, but he’s clearly been an impact player for them and it sounds like the two sides plan on him joining the team in Las Vegas.

“It’s been a great fit for me,” Incognito said, “and it’s been really good for them too.”

As of now, the two sides have discussed contract parameters of a potential deal, but Tafur explains that Oakland can’t extend his contract until after the season due to the fact that they signed him to a one-year contract for the veteran’s minimum.

Incognito, 36, is a former third-round pick of the Rams back in 2005. He played three years for the Rams and one year for the Bills before signing on with the Dolphins in 2010.

After four years in Miami, Incognito was released and out of football for a year before securing another shot with the Bills in 2015.

Incognito was in the final year of his three-year, $15.75 million contract when he agreed to the restructured deal. The Bills released him from the retired list in 2018 and he later signed a one-year contract with the Raiders this past May.

Incognito is in line to be an unrestricted free agent next year.

In 2019, Incognito has appeared in eight games for the Raiders and made eight starts for them. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 guard out of 78 qualifying players.
