According to Tom Pelissero, the NFL has fined Raiders HC Jon Gruden and Saints HC Sean Payton each $100,000 for not wearing their masks properly in Monday night’s game.
Both teams were also fined $250,000 each. The NFL has now issued $1.75 million in fines for sideline mask violations by head coaches in Week 2.
The punishments are the same as the ones that were handed out yesterday to Broncos HC Vic Fangio, Seahawks HC Pete Carroll and 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan.
Reports have said that the NFL was planning to issue serious discipline for coaches who choose not to wear masks in Week 2 after a number of coaches were seen on the sideline not adhering to the agreed-upon protocols for NFL games this year.
Last week the NFL issued a pair of written warnings and clearly meant business. It wouldn’t be surprising to see more fines going forward if coaches don’t change their behavior.
