Raiders Hire John Pagano As Assistant HC/Defense

The Oakland Raiders announced Monday evening that they’ve hired John Pagano as their Assistant Head Coach – Defense.

Pagano interviewed for the Redskins’ defensive coordinator position before they promoted Greg Manusky.

Pagano, 49, began his NFL coaching career with the Chargers back in 2002 and has spent 15 years in San Diego. He worked his way was up to defensive coordinator back in 2012, even though the team made a coaching change in 2013.

Unfortunately, the Chargers elected to replace him as their defensive coordinator after they hired Anthony Lynn as their new head coach.

In 2016, Pagano’s defense ranked no. 29 in points allowed, No. 16 in total yards allowed, No. 10 in rushing yards allowed and No. 20 in passing yards allowed.
