According to Tom Pelissero, the Raiders are bringing in free agent ILB Vontaze Burfict for a visit on Tuesday.
There’s an obvious tie to the Raiders in that Burfict played for DC Paul Guenther while they were together in Cincinnati.
The Raiders have met with a number of linebackers in recent days and a report from Monday did say that Burfict was worth watching for Oakland, so this isn’t a big surprise.
It’s worth mentioning that signing Burfict to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.
Burfict, 28, wound up signing on with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State back in 2012. He was in the final year of his four-year, $20 million contract when the Bengals signed him to a three-year $38.68M extension last year.
Burfict was set to make base salaries of $5 million (2019), and $6.18 million (2020) over the remainder of the contract when the Bengals cut him on Monday.
In 2018, Burfict appeared in seven games for the Bengals and recorded 33 tackles, no sacks and three pass defenses.
