The Oakland Raiders announced Wednesday that they’ve placed TE Lee Smith on injured reserve and promoted TE Ryan O’Malley to their active roster.
Smith suffered a fractured bone in his lower leg during Sunday’s game that was expected to cost him the remainder of the season, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.
Smith, 28, is a former fifth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2011. After four years with the Bills, Smith signed a three-year, $9 million contract with the Raiders back in March of 2015.ย Smith stands to make a $2.5 million base salary for the 2016 season.
In 2016, Lee has caught five passes for 28 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the Raiders over the course of three games.
