Raiders Placing DE Mario Edwards On I.R. With “Significant” Neck Injury

Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Raiders are placing rookie DEย Mario Edwards on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday.

Raiders HC Jackย Del Rio said that Edwards has a “significant” neck injuryย that may requireย surgery.

Edwards, 21, was taken in the second-round of this year’s NFL draft. He signed a four-year, $6.017 million contractย that includes $4.161 million guaranteed.

He’ll make a base salary of $435,000 this season to go along with another $708,508 in 2016.

This season, Edwards appeared in 14 games and recorded 41 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass defenses for the Raiders.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 29 defensive end in a 3-4 defenseย out of 57 qualifying players.
