Ian Rapoport reports that after Raiders S Tyvon Branch undergoes surgery on his fractured foot, Oakland is expected to place him on injured reserve.
Branch, 27, is in the third year of his four-year, $26.6 million contract that included $17.6 million guaranteed. His base salary for this season is $3 million and he stands to make $5.5 million in 2015 to go along with a $1 million roster bonus that’s due in March.
The Raiders clearly viewed him as a foundation piece in their defense shortly after Reggie McKenzie took over as the team’s general manager a few years ago. However, injuries have really limited him since signing his contract extension.
Last year, he appeared in just two games and recorded five tackles and sacks. His 2014 season could end with after three games in which he totaled 29 tackles, one sack and a pass defensed.
