According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Raiders RB Isaiah Crowell tore his Achilles during a workout on Tuesday and will miss the 2019 season.
Crowell will have surgery for the injury sometime next week. The Raiders signed him to a one-year, $2.5 million deal earlier this offseason.
This likely means an even bigger role for first-round RB Josh Jacobs, per Schefter.
Crowell, 26, originally signed on with the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama State back in 2014. He played out his rookie contract and re-signed with the Browns as a restricted free agent.
Crowell departed in free agency last year for a three-year, $12 million contract that included $6 million guaranteed with the Jets. He was released earlier this month in a move that freed up $3 million of available cap space while creating $2 million in dead money.
In 2018, Crowell appeared in 13 games for the Jets and rushed for 685 yards on 143 carries (4.8 YPC) to go along with 21 receptions for 152 yards receiving and six total touchdowns.
