Raiders RT Menelik Watson Out For Season With Torn Achilles

Raiders RT Menelik Watson announced via his Twitter account Sunday night that he suffered a torn Achilles during the team’s third preseason game and will subsequently miss the entire 2015 season.

Raiders HC Jack Del Rio told NBC’s Michele Tafoya that it didn’t look good during the broadcast, so it was clear that he may have season-ending injury.

Watson, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Raiders and was competing for the starting right tackle job this summer. Oakland will likely turn to Austin Howard at right tackle now that Watson is done for the year.

He has two years remaining on his four-year, $4.15 million rookie contract that included $2.895 million guaranteed.

In 2014, Watson appeared in 12 games for the Raiders and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 71 offensive tackle out of 84 qualifying players.
