Raiders Sign P Chris Kluwe

Former Vikings P Chris Kluwe  is signing with the Oakland Raiders.

“I’m excited to be an Oakland Raider and be playing in California,” Kluwe told Brendon Ayanbadejo of FOX Sports. “Now, my family can actually come to games.

Kluwe, 31, was released by the Vikings after they made the decision to move forward with their rookie punter Jeff Locke. There was some controversy as to whether or not Kluwe’s off-the-field activism played a role in the team’s decision, but it’s worth pointing out that his overall performance had dipped in recent years and he was set to make $1.4 million for the 2013 season.

Kluwe receives a one-year, $840,000 contract from the Raiders and will have to do his best to replace Shane Lechler this season. He’s been dealing with a torn meniscus, which is expected to be healed in time for the team’s training camp.
