Rams “Definitely Interested” In Trade For Odell Beckham Jr

Peter King of TheMMQB.com reports that the Rams are “definitely interested” in trading for Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr, as prior reports have said.

According to King, the Giants’ asking price is “daunting” and could eventually roadblock a potential trade to the Rams. However, King says that isn’t happening right now and if New York is to move Beckham in a deal, the Rams “will be in the game till the end.

One person who clearly wants to see Beckham remain in New York, according to King, is Giants HC Pat Shurmur. Although, King says that Shumur’s desire to keep Beckham on his team isn’t going to be a deciding factor in what ultimately happens with him over the next few weeks.

The Giants are believed to be looking for two first-round picks in return for Beckham. King says that it’s possible New York could decide that Beckham isn’t worth the trouble and accept two low first-round picks in return for him to go along with the cap savings that would come from not paying him a record receiver contract.

Even though obtaining two first-round picks could be tempting for Giants GM Dave Gettleman, King explains that owner John Mara is well aware of the fact that Beckham is a transcendent talent and his value to the team, which could lead to them figuring out a way to make it work.

Since Mara first opened the door to possibly moving Beckham, the Rams have been the team to watch and it sounds like that won’t change in the lead up to this year’s draft.

Last week, one report said that Beckham has told two Rams’ players that he’d like to join them in Los Angeles.

Adam Schefter mentioned during an appearance on “Golic and Wingo” that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants traded Beckham Jr before this year’s draft: “I would not be surprised if we see an Odell Beckham trade on or before the NFL draft.”

Beckham, 25, was taken with the No. 12 overall pick by the Giants back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $10,406,198 contract but the Giants picked up his fifth-year option last year.

Beckham stands to make a base salary of $8,459,000 for the 2018 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Beckham would free up $8,459,000 of available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2017, Beckham Jr’s season was cut short when he suffered a season-ending injury. He caught 25 passes for 302 yards receiving and three touchdowns over the course of four games.

We’ll have more regarding a new deal for Beckham as the news is available.
