Gay will be brought in to compete with rookie K Austin MacGinnis after K Kai Forbath was placed on injured reserve with a lateral ankle sprain on Monday.
Gay, 26, was drafted by the Buccaneers in the fifth round out of Utah in 2019. He was entering the second year of his four-year, $2.8 million deal when Tampa Bay waived him coming out of camp.
Gay was later signed to the Colts practice squad back in September, but they decided to let him go just two months later.
In 2019, Gay appeared in all 16 games for the Buccaneers and made 27-35 field goal attempts (77.1 percent) and 43-48 extra points (89.6 percent).
