On Tuesday, Clay Matthews announced via his Twitter account that he’s signed a two-year contract with the Rams.

  • Mike Garafolo reports that Matthews receives a two-year contract worth up to $16.75 million from the Rams
  • According to Garafolo, Matthews had had more lucrative offers on the table but wanted to play close to home.

Matthews, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Packers back in 2009. He played out the final year of his six-year, $69.73 million contract and made a base salary of $10.4 million for the 2018 season.

Matthews was testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career this offseason.

In 2018, Matthews appeared in all 16 games for the Packers and recorded 43 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 59 edge rusher out of 103 qualifying players.
