Ravens Moving On From S Matt Elam Following Arrest On Drug Charges

According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Ravens free agent S Matt Elam was arrested early Sunday morning in Miami on drug charges including possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to sell or deliver, and possession of a controlled substance.

Elam was initially pulled over for reckless driving and found 126 grams of marijuana and three grams of oxycodone after searching his vehicle.

The Ravens have already released a statement regarding Elam and making it clear that they will be moving on from this offseason.

Elam, 25, was taken with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2013 draft. He just finished the final year of his four-year, $6.767 million rookie contract that included $5.439 guaranteed.

The Ravens declined to pick up Elam’s fifth-year option that would have run them over $5.6 million in 2017.

Elam’s 2015 season ended after he suffered a torn biceps. However, Elam wound up being suspended one game without pay for violating the NFL substance abuse policy.

In 2016, Elam appeared in nine games for the Ravens and recorded four total tackles.
