Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Ravens were not caught off guard by the news that G Marshal Yanda is retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons with the team.
According to Garafolo, Baltimore knew retirement was a likely outcome for the veteran guard and they aren’t scrambling right now to figure out a plan to replace him.
Garafolo mentions that one name to keep an eye on for the Ravens as a potential replacement is veteran G Kelechi Osemele, who previously played for the Ravens. Garafolo says he’s working his way back to full health after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Last year, Osemele made the decision last year to undergo the shoulder procedure against the wishes of the Jets, which ultimately led to his release.
Osemele explained at the time that this is a 4-6 month recovery from surgery, but he โ100 percentโ wants to continue playing next year.
Osemele, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Ravens back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract with the Ravens before signing a five year, $58.5 million contract with the Raiders back in 2016.
The Raiders traded Osemele to the Jets this offseason for a fifth-round pick. He was later released by the Jets in October and sat out the remainder of the season.
In 2019, Osemele appeared in three games for the Jets, making three starts.
