Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome confirmed that they are still working on long-term deals for RB Ray Rice, QB Joe Flacco, and CB Cary Williams.
“We are in talks with all three,” Newsome said. “One thing that’s already been established is that all three will be on our team this year.”
Rice was notably absent from training camp on Monday, but Newsome appears to understand where he’s coming from.
“We understand the nature of the business,” Newsome said, via BaltimoreRavens.com. “Having been an ex-player, do they want to take an opportunity to risk an injury this time of the year? Because if it does [happen], it will affect the negotiations.”
Baltimore is going to have a tough time getting both Ray Rice and Joe Flacco under contract, while having enough money to address other needs in the future. The upcoming draft will be very important for the Ravens as they’ll probably end up leaning on some of the guys drafted this year a lot in the comings seasons.
