Several outlets are reporting that the Ravens have made the decision to franchise RB Ray Rice.
We all knew that this move was coming so itโs by no means a shock. Baltimore will pay him $7.7 million for the 2012 season but will know have to figured it theyโre going to keep players Ben Grubbs and Jarret Johnson.
The Ravens have bought some extra time to negotiate a long-term deal with Rice but the talks are likely to spill over into season.
The Ravens have officially announced a number of transactions today and among them, the release of WR Lee Evans and CB Chris Carr.
Yesterday we mentioned that both players would be released in the coming days so once again, no surprises here.
Evans had a base salary of $3.275 million which just wasnโt an option after he couldnโt get healthy last season. Carr lost his starting job and wasnโt the contract that he signed last season. Both moves make plenty of sense considering their performance and the fact that Baltimore needs the extra cash.
The Ravens place Williams on the reserve/retired list which means that thereโs a chance that he could return at a later time. Williams will be 35 at the start of next season so itโs hard to imagine that heโll be willing to return again.
