Ravens Waive WR Chris Matthews, Activate CB Maurice Canady From IR

The Baltimore Ravens announced that they’ve waived WRย Chris Matthews on Friday and activated CB Maurice Canady from injured reserve.

Matthews, 28, originally signed on with the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky back in 2011. He lasted just a few months in Cleveland before he was waived at the start of the season.

It took a few years for him to secure another opportunity, but he signed a future/reserve contract with the Seahawks in February of 2014 and went on to help in the Super Bowl.

After he was waived the following year, Matthews signed on to the Ravens’ practice squad and returned to the team on an exclusive rights contract.ย Unfortunately, Matthews was placed on injured reserve at the start of last year and missed the entire season.

The Ravens re-signed Matthews to an exclusive rights contract this offseason before cutting him loose at the start of the season.ย Matthews returned to the team soon after.

In 2017, Matthews has appeared in six games and caught three passes for 25 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
