The Washington Redskins announced Tuesday that they have activated DT Barry Cofield from short-term injured reserve and placed LB Jackson Jeffcoat on waivers.
Cofield suffered a high ankle sprain towards the end of the preseason and later placed on injured reserve with the designation to return.
Coefield, 30, is in the fourth year of his six-year, $36 million contract that includes $12.5 million guaranteed. He has a base salary of $4.55 million coming his way in 2014 and 2015.
Last year, Coefield appeared in all 16 games and recorded 32 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery.
Jeffcoat, 22, signed on with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Texas. However, he was unable to make their final 53-man roster and was later signed by Washington to their practice squad.
The Redskins promoted him to their active roster a few weeks ago, but he only appeared in one game and has yet to record a single statistic.
