Redskins Considered Benching Tim Hightower

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan appeared on ESPN 980 Washington yesterday and mentioned that he almost benched RB Tim Hightower in favor of Ryan Torain during Monday night’s game against Dallas.

We can’t have the type of slippage we had,” said Shanahan. “Hopefully, we will have that problem rectified.” Added Shanahan, “I got a lot of belief in Ryan Torain.”

Shanahan has a tendency to go with a committee backfield so the fact that he considered making a change really isn’t that surprising. What is interesting however is that he mentioned Ryan Torrain as the next in is a little interesting as Roy Helu has seen some game action during the first three weeks of the season and has looked pretty good overall.

I doubt that Hightower is in danger of losing his job but in the near future but it’s pretty important for him to put together a better game against the Rams tomorrow.
