Redskins Expect Trent Williams To Play For Them This Season, Williams Says “Zero Chance” That Happens

UPDATE: Trent Williams said via former Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall that “There’s zero chance I’ll be in that building next week.”

Hall says Williams also told him the team “hasn’t addressed the issues” he has. Hall said Williams and Redskins GM Bruce Allen had a good relationship, at least before this situation, and Williams had aspirations of working in an NFL front office someday.

Williams told Hall his agent told him teams had reached out to Washington with trade requests, but the Redskins weren’t interested in dealing him.

Redskins executive Bruce Allen said on Wednesday he expects LT Trent Williams to “play football” this season and the team isn’t trading him.

โ€œItโ€™ll be with us,โ€ Allen said via NBC4 Sports.

Allen said he doesn’t believe Williams will follow through on his threats to not play for the Redskins this season.

โ€œI think Trentโ€™s going to play football, yes,โ€ Allen said. โ€œWe had a surprising retirement this week in the NFL and I donโ€™t see Trent retiring.โ€

Williams requested either a trade or release earlier this offseason and has reportedly vowed not to play for Washington in 2019.

However, the Redskins have told multiple teams this summer that they are not trading Williams, despite the fact that he’s holding out of training camp. Meanwhile, those in Williams camp have said: He’s not coming back. Period.”

The Redskins have reportedly rebuffed multiple inquiries for Williams this offseason.

Williams, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Redskins back in 2010. He currently in the fourth year of his five-year, $66 million contract that includes $43.25 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $11 million and $12.5 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Williams started 13 games for the Redskins.  Pro Football Focus rated Williams as the No. 21 tackle out of 80 qualifying players.

We’ll have more on the situation with the Redskins and Williams as the news is available.
