Jordan Schultz reports that the Redskins made an official offer to OLB Pernell McPhee after visiting with the team on Monday.
This was the first reported team to show interest in McPhee, so it appears that Washington wants to get a deal done quickly.
It’s worth mentioning that signing McPhee to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.
McPhee, 29, is a former fifth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2011. He spent four years in Baltimore before signing a five-year, $38.75 million contract that included $15.5 million guaranteed back in 2015.
McPhee was set to make base salaries of $7.2 million and $7.625 million over the next two years when the Bears released him this offseason in a move that freed up $7,075,000 of available cap space.
In 2017, McPhee appeared in 13 games for the Bears and recorded 21 tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble and two pass defenses.
