Redskins Plan On Franchising TE Fred Davis

NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora reports that “numerous people in the organization” believe the Washington Redskins will designate TE Fred Davis with their franchise tag.

This move would cost them $5.5 million guaranteed for the coming season but the team should have plenty of cap space to work with. Davis is 26 years and has been a quality option for them in recent years as Chris Cooley has had a tough time staying healthy. The only issue regarding Davis is that he’ll be suspended for the first four games of the 2012 season after he and fellow Redskins Trent Williams failed drug tests during the season. Another incident such as this would result in him being suspended for an entire year.
