Redskins Promote S Akeem Davis, Cut S Jamarca Sanford

The Washington Redskins announced Sunday that they have signed S Akeem Davis off their practice squad and waived S Jamarca Sanford to make room for him.

Sanford, 29, is a former seventh-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings. He spent just over five years with the team before he was placed injured reserve and later released with an injury settlement close to a month ago.

Washington signed him to a contract close to a month ago, but he recorded just two tackles over the course of three games.

Last year, Sanford appeared in 13 games and recorded 57 tackles, two forced fumbles, one recovery and a single pass defensed.

Davis, 24, signed on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Memphis back in April. He eventually ended up on the team’s practice squad at the start of the year. He has appeared in four games and recorded five total tackles this year.
